Oasis vs Blur

Beginning with when Blur moved their release date of their single 'Country House' to the same day that Oasis released their single 'Roll With It' (14th August 1995) a war had started. And the press loved it even more, the rough, working class, no-nonsense Northerners versus the pretentious, university-educated, hipster Southerners.

It was also a successful time for both bands. Blur was releasing had huge success with their release of Parklife. And Oasis were working on their second album after their even bigger success with their debut 'Definitely Maybe'.

The competition immediately caught the eye of the NME, who stoked the controversy by calling it 'The Big Chart Showdown' and the 'battle even caught the attention of the mainstream news media:

Graham Coxen (member of Blur's point of view) - 'the band's success seemed like a hollow, pointless victory... our record company threw a big champagne party at Soho House in London. I felt I was being forced into enjoying the moment and I just wanted to be alone really. I couldn't handle being part of that crowd so I tried to jump out of a sixth-storey window. It was Damon who talked me out of it.'

Oasis' album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory and Blur's 'The Great Escape' were both released in a month of each other, and this caused strong insults especially from Noel's side.

Things still haven't completely worked out, but since the split between the brothers, everything has calmed down.
